
Mary Helen Macgregor is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern, #23580 in the state of Florida. She has a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Mary Helen is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA).
Mary Helen’s approach to counseling is person-centered and psychodynamic in nature, with a special interest in play therapy and attachment theory. Mary Helen takes a holistic approach to counseling, considering the client's overall physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Since she believes every client's well-being and needs look different, Mary Helen tailors her sessions to meet each client's individual needs by using different therapeutic approaches. Some of her therapeutic techniques include person-centered therapy, family systems therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and Gestalt therapy.
Mary Helen’s main goal when working with clients is to create an environment where her clients feel safe, valued, and accepted. She believes in meeting her clients where they are at in life. Through honesty, compassion, and gentle curiosity, Mary Helen works to help her clients gain awareness of their own resilience and utilize their abilities to facilitate meaningful personal growth and accountability. She specializes in working with children and adolescents; however, she enjoys working with all age groups. Mary Helen’s experience includes working with individuals and families struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, body image issues, adjustment issues, and self-esteem. She also works with social anxiety, ADHD, anger, parent/child relationship issues, and chronic health issues.
Mary Helen is known for her genuine love for people and for her infectious laugh. She lives life to the full wherever she goes. She has a stong love for animals (particulary dogs) and still shares a strong sense of passion and loyaly to her Scottish roots. She enjoys attending her church in Winter Garden, going to game and movie nights, taking walks, traveling, trying different coffee shops and restaurants, and participating in her hobbies which include gardening and soccer, both playing and spectating!
